Ronaldo leaves El Clasico after suffering apparent ankle injury

Cristiano Ronaldo’s day came to a premature end as the Real Madrid star was substituted at half-time of Sunday’s El Clasico against Barcelona after suffering an apparent ankle injury.

The 33-year-old, who was replaced by Marco Asensio, appeared to suffer the injury when he cancelled out Luis Suarez’s first-half opener, as Gerard Pique’s sliding attempt to intercept the ball caught Ronaldo on the ankle.

Following his equaliser, he received treatment on the pitch but was able to continue until the break.

Real Madrid has yet to confirm he was removed because of an injury, but reports suggest he is dealing with a slight ankle sprain.

The injury comes less than three weeks before Madrid takes on Liverpool in the Champions League final on May 26 in Kyiv, Ukraine.
