Champions League draw: PSG meet Barca, Chelsea battle Atletico in last 16
The round of 16 for this season’s Champions League is set.
Monday’s draw for the knockout stage of Europe’s premier club competition offered up some tantalizing matchups between high-profile clubs.
The marquee fixture sees Paris Saint-Germain, last season’s finalists, take on Lionel Messi and Barcelona. Neymar helped author one of the iconic Champions League comebacks against PSG during his time at the Camp Nou. Now, assuming he’s fit, he’ll be on the other side of that divide.
Elsewhere, Chelsea and Liverpool were handed arguably the toughest tasks of any group winners, being paired with dangerous second-place teams in the form of Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig, respectively.
Here’s how the draw unfolded:
- Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Manchester City
- Lazio vs. Bayern Munich
- Atletico Madrid vs. Chelsea
- RB Leipzig vs. Liverpool
- FC Porto vs. Juventus
- Barcelona vs. Paris Saint-Germain
- Sevilla vs. Borussia Dortmund
- Atalanta vs. Real Madrid
The first legs are scheduled to begin Feb. 16, with the decisive return fixtures slated to start March 9.
