Carlos Tevez – who’s believed to take home a world-record £615,000-a-week wage from Shanghai Shenhua – endured a dreadful debut with his new club Wednesday as it was booted from the qualifying round of the Asian Champions League.
Shenhua’s tormentor, Brisbane Roar, is restricted by a £1.6-million annual salary cap for its whole squad, meaning the entire Australian side splits approximately 5 percent of Tevez’s yearly takings.
A volleyed opener after 87 seconds from Brandon Borello was followed by a 40th-minute effort from former Ipswich Town flop Tommy Oar, enabling the away side to enter the interval 2-0 up in the world’s most populous city.
Shenhua boss Gustavo Poyet then watched in disbelief as the Roar failed to capitalise on plenty of opportunities for a third, while the likes of Tevez, Obafemi Martins, Giovanni Moreno, and Bai Jiajun were profligate in the Chinese giant’s attack.
Shenhua’s cross-city rival, Oscar and Hulk’s Shanghai SIPG, advanced to the Champions League group stages Tuesday by easing three unanswered goals past Sukhothai. The Thai League outfit had previously played just one match in 135 days due to the suspension of its domestic division following the death of beloved king Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Although the excitement of a title race ended long ago, the thrill of setting a European record awaits Celtic.
Paris Saint-Germain’s title-winning points margin record is already in danger of falling a year after the French side ran away with the Ligue 1 title.
The capital city outfit secured the league title with over two months left in season, and went on to dominate the competition during the final weeks to win the Ligue 1 title by 31 points.
PSG ended up finishing two points clear of Celtic’s 2013-14 title-winning campaign, but now it looks as though the Glaswegians are making a serious claim to make history once again.

The Brendan Rodgers-led side have been virtually unstoppable through 24 domestic matches, with breakout star Moussa Dembele and Premier League castaway Scott Sinclair towing the load for an attacking Celtic side that enjoys a 20-goal margin over the next highest scoring team, Hearts (45 goals).
Celtic’s league record alone is something to behold as the 47-time league champions have complied a ludicrous unbeaten record of 23 wins and one draw through 24 matches.
Despite facing opposition considerably weaker than the likes that PSG had to plough through last season, producing a 27-points gap over Aberdeen and Rangers – tied with 43 points – is nothing to scoff at, no matter the calibre of the league.
In comparison, Celtic holds a four-point edge over PSG’s 2015-16 record at the same point of the season:

PSG went on to compile another 30 points after securing the league title in March.
Considering Celtic’s run of dominance, the Glasgow-based side could, theoretically, also have the league wrapped up in March if the Bhoys win their next five matches, combined with the rest of the league beating Aberdeen and Rangers outright.
However, before Celtic attempts to break the European record, the club is eyeing a revered club record held by the Lisbon Lions. Rodgers’ men can overtake the European winners’ 50-year-old mark if they manage to go unbeaten over the next three matches to surpass the post-war record of 26 matches without a loss.

While PSG is in no position to come close to last season’s dominance – sitting 14 points off its pace at this stage a year ago and three points back of leaders AS Monaco – there is an unlikely adversary out of Wales who also has a chance to make history.
The New Saints, of the Welsh Premier League, has already beaten Ajax’s 45-year-old record with its 26th-straight victory in December. Now, TNS has its sights set on continuing its record-breaking ways after compiling a similar league record to Celtic’s – 22 wins, 1 draw – to open a 24-point gap.
Real Madrid will take its search for a new goalkeeper to England when its transfer ban is lifted in the summer.
Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has been added to Zinedine Zidane’s wish list, which also includes Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois and former target David De Gea of Manchester United, reports The Telegraph’s Matt Law.
The search revives the side’s shot-stopper hunt of 19 months ago, which culminated with De Gea’s £29.3-million move to the Santiago Bernabeu – with Keylor Navas shifting in the other direction – collapsing due to United’s apparent administrative error.

Navas somewhat awkwardly continued as Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper after the bodged switch, but he’s never completely won over a support accustomed to having the finest Spanish goalkeepers between the sticks. The latest rumblings would immediately put De Gea back atop the fans’ dream captures, but United is likely to fight to retain his services.
Therefore, Lloris, 30, has emerged as a potential buy. The France international currently takes home around £100,000 a week on a new contract that runs until 2022 but could be tempted by doubled wages in the Spanish capital. Similar to the De Gea situation, there would be a reluctance from Spurs to sell their skipper, but the sales of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale from north London to Real Madrid show that their resolve can be tested.
The favourite for the Real Madrid brass would be Courtois, however, who impressed at Atletico Madrid in a three-year loan spell before relieving Petr Cech of glove-donning duties at Stamford Bridge in 2014. It’s believed the 24-year-old is settled at Chelsea after a strong season so far, though, so a new contract could be likelier than a switch to Real Madrid.
Navas will continue to mind the net for Real Madrid’s trip to Osasuna on Saturday, with Kiko Casilla set to have his opportunities limited by the club’s Copa del Rey elimination at the hands of Celta Vigo last week.
Napoli forward Arkadiusz Milik continues to defy the odds during his rapid recovery from a torn ACL.
Less than four months after undergoing surgery to repair the ligaments in his knee, Milik is available to play Saturday after being named to Napoli’s 23-man squad ahead of Saturday’s encounter with Bologna.
Milik suffered the injury while on international duty with Poland in October and was initially expected to miss seven months.
Yet, from the the start, the 27-year-old defied conventional wisdom during his recovery effort. The first major hurdle was cleared a month after undergoing the operation when Milik was told he could begin running.
He was then given the green light to return to first-team shortly after the New Year.
Manager Maurizio Sarri took a cautious approach before finally including him in the team set to face Bologna.
Before suffering the injury, Milik, who signed with the Serie A outfit from Ajax last summer, found the back of the net seven times in all competitions during his opening nine matches in a Napoli strip.
