English media reported that Barcelona has expressed interest in Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata. The Catalan club is trying to convince the Spaniard not to renew the contract with the club as he wants to take it as a free transfer.
The Spanish midfielder is not among the favorites of Manchester United’s new coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as the Norwegian prefers to use the speed of other side attackers in his squad.
The contract of Mata with Barcelona ends this summer and now he has become one of the players that are being sought by Barcelona. The Catalan club is trying to sign a pre-agreement with the Spaniard.
The Catalan giant has already contacted Meta’s representatives. Barcelona’s interest in former Chelsea and Valencia players is believed to be very serious.
Other European clubs like Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the transfer of Meta. However, all of these clubs want in their team Mata if he does not sign a new contract with the “Red Devils”.
Manchester United is now in talks with Mata to renew the contract, but so far these negotiations have been unsuccessful since no agreement has been reached between the two sides.
Now Mata is free to negotiate with clubs outside of England to pass as a free transfer during the summer transfer. Initially, Mat’s contract should have been completed last summer, but the “Red Devils” activated a clause in his contract to keep the Spaniard for another year.
Mata moved from Chelsea to Manchester United in January 2014 and, during this time, made 208 appearances for his club. In his five years at Old Trafford, Mata has scored 44 goals and has assisted 35 others.
