Inter’s executive director Giuseppe Marotta has announced that Luciano Spalletti’s future in the position of coach of the club is very safe, despite having failed to win any of the last four games.
Inter suffered a 1-0 home defeat on Sunday against Bologna. Spallett’s team has failed to win any of the last three Serie A matches and is now 11 points away from Napoli, ranking second.
Inter was also eliminated from the Italian Cup last week after losing to penalties against Lazio. These poor appearances and results during the last games have caused doubts about the future of the club coach.
But Inter’s executive director, Marotta, insists Spalletti has a safe place, despite admitting that the club is running a bad time.
“We had a discussion after the match against Bolognas, but this is something we do all in spite of the result. We admit that we are going through a bad phase and that is very disappointing, especially for the fans, but Spalletti’s position at the club is safe, “Marotta said.
“We are in a transitional phase at the club. There will still be 16 matches and we are in the third place. It is true that our form has deteriorated, but we rely on our team and fans, so I’m sure we will overcome this situation. ”
Italian media reported last week that Inter drivers have told Spalletti coach he should win a trophy this season or else he will be dismissed from the position of the club’s coach.
Spalletti met with Inter’s leaders for dinner on Monday of last week and the Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport claims that at this meeting, club president Steven Zhang made it clear to Spallett that he should win a trophy season.
Spalletti extended his contract until 2021 at the start of this season, but this new contract does not guarantee the former Roma coach the coach’s chair for next season.
